Getting from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam: All Your Options

Travel guide

Schiphol Airport sits just outside Amsterdam, and reaching the city centre is refreshingly straightforward whichever way you choose.

The train is the fastest and most popular option - direct services run to Amsterdam Centraal in about 15–20 minutes, departing every few minutes throughout the day. It's also the cheapest way in.

A taxi takes roughly 20–30 minutes depending on traffic and costs considerably more, but it's the easiest option if you're arriving late, travelling with a lot of luggage, or simply want to skip the logistics.

Buses connect Schiphol to areas outside the main train route, useful if your hotel isn't near Centraal. And if you've booked a private transfer, you'll typically be met at arrivals with a fixed price agreed in advance - handy for larger groups or an easier start to the trip.

For most travellers staying centrally, the train is the easiest call: fast, frequent, and impossible to get lost on.
