The Best Spots to Photograph Tulip Fields in the Netherlands

Seasonal

Getting a great tulip field photo is less about equipment and more about timing - both in the season and in the day.

Golden hour, in the hour or so after sunrise or before sunset, gives the fields a warmer, softer light and far fewer other visitors than midday. Fields further from Keukenhof itself, around Hillegom and Noordwijkerhout, tend to be quieter than the ones directly beside the gardens, giving you a cleaner shot without other tourists in frame. A low angle, shooting along the rows rather than across them, exaggerates the colour and depth far more than a standing shot does.

Mid-April, during peak bloom, gives you the fullest colour to work with - just be prepared to arrive early if you want the fields to yourself.Want to know the moment the fields turn to colour? Join our mailing list for tulip season updates and more.
