About Keukenhof 2025
It first served as a herb and vegetable garden for the Teylingen Castle kitchen; this is where Keukenhof gets its name. The word "Keuken" is Dutch for kitchen.
In the 19th century, the estate was redesigned into an English landscape garden by the well-known landscape architects Jan David Zocher and Louis Paul Zocher, his son. This plan forms the structure of the park in its present form.
In 1949, Keukenhof was used as a spring flower exhibition by a group of Dutch flower growers. It proved to be a very good idea. Keukenhof officially opened its doors as a place for exhibitions in 1950. Since then, it has developed into a name that is known all over the worldβa floral paradise that offers more than 7.5 million flowers every year!
