5 Days in the Netherlands

Itineraries

Five days is the sweet spot for seeing more than just Amsterdam without turning your trip into a series of train stations.

Spend your first two days in the Amsterdam city - one for the canal ring and major museums, one for sightseeing by bike or boat or maybe slower exploring.

Day three is countryside: Zaanse Schans, Volendam and Marken pair well together for a single day covering windmills, cheese farms and fishing villages.

Day four is Giethoorn, ideally spent gliding through its canals rather than rushing through on a tight schedule.

For day five, pick a second city based on what you're drawn to - Rotterdam for architecture, Utrecht for a quieter, local feel, or Keukenhof if you're travelling in spring.

This pacing gives you enough variety to feel like you've actually seen the country, while still allowing for the odd unplanned café stop.
